Warning: Caution is required when using DHL COD!
I recently had a very unpleasant experience using DHL’s COD service. In conclusion, I highly recommend that you never use DHL COD.

Reasons:
- Non-application of origin rates: When sending an invoice, the rate is determined based on the Account information. However, when paying by COD, the rate of the other Account is applied, resulting in a much higher charge than the actual invoice amount.
- Impossible to get a quote in advance: When paying by COD, you cannot check the quote for the other Account, so you cannot predict the final billing amount.
- High charge: In my case, I was charged 1,250,000 won instead of the estimated 160,000 won for sending a 6kg package from Korea to Malta. I was also charged 2,443 euros instead of the estimated 200 euros for sending a 10kg package from China to the UK.

Solutions:
- Contact customer center: If you experience such problems, you should contact DHL customer center immediately. You can contact them by email or directly to your sales representative.
- Use LOA form: Due to frequent overcharging, DHL provides an LOA form. If you request the application of the origin rate in this form, they will recalculate and send it.

Prevention of damage:
- Avoid using COD: It is recommended to avoid using COD as much as possible and send it after checking the rate and getting a quote in advance.
- Change company guidelines: As a result of this incident, our company has changed all DHL shipments to be sent after consultation.
Precautions:
- Slow response from European customer center: European customer centers tend to be slow to respond. In urgent cases, it is recommended to contact them by phone to resolve the issue.
- Increase in customer damage: As more cases of damage like mine have occurred, LOA forms have been prepared.
Conclusion:
Through this experience, I have learned the dangers of DHL’s COD service. Please be careful when using DHL COD and make sure to check all the information in advance.
