The Choices That Made Me Today: Every Moment a Meaningful Decision

Everything is a choice. We make countless choices every day. A system is what automates these choices. Once a system is established, choices are made automatically. This means structuring choices that have been made beforehand. Today begins within this framework of choices. Today is already chosen.

Workplace, environment, and food are all chosen. Within this already chosen environment, we encounter another universe. That is the other person. We receive calls and messages from someone. In this communication with that universe, we must make another choice. What kind of conversation to have, what words to choose, what stories will be exchanged.

Our universe depends on the choices we make in this moment. How to live in harmony and empathy with the other person, is created through the choices in a brief conversation. That’s why the choices we make in this moment are so important. A seemingly insignificant conversation can be the last with someone. Thus, every moment is a collection of the best choices, and that is who I am today.

Professor Kim Chang-ok conveys the importance of this communication through his warm lectures. He provides a time to contemplate together what the right answer should be in that moment. Practicing beforehand is important. Because we never know what situation might arise. A person’s entirety is revealed in a moment’s conversation. It is in that moment’s choice that greatness emerges from another person. When the knowledge and experience of time, along with a warm subjectivity, are added, unhesitating conversations can flow endlessly. Choice upon choice. Only at the end of the best choices lies today’s glory. The choice of my words and the topic of conversation today did not come about overnight. For this moment’s choice, I have stepped forward, overcoming countless choices in life. That is life.
