There’s a saying: “Put first things first!” It even suggests creating a chart to clearly categorize my tasks and handle them accordingly. It emphasizes prioritizing what aligns most with my long-term vision.
Before putting first things first, a philosophical contemplation of what I deem most important is necessary. Engaging in this philosophical contemplation can feel like an immense stroke of luck. This is because before that, we are often confronted with the need to make a living.
For a head of household, the most important thing is to maintain this livelihood. In situations where basic needs like food, clothing, and shelter are not met, resolving them becomes the most crucial task. Ultimately, the most important thing is given as surviving economically. This is the environment we all face. That’s why education is also focused on a life aimed at securing economically prosperous jobs. So, the most important thing is making money. In situations where there’s no material solution, it’s hard to accept any advice as advice.
However,
humans are not happy simply with earning money for survival. A life driven by purpose is a fulfilling life, a happy life. While constantly working, our consciousness and heart whisper or shout, sometimes softly, sometimes loudly, towards a single point: “What are you doing here?! Is this truly what you want?!”
A life lived without purpose is the same as a life lived asleep. Only by constantly exploring, questioning, and engaging in serious self-reflection do we find our own answer to what the most important thing is. And when we realize that only that work makes our life meaningful, the flow of life naturally focuses on the “most important thing.” And doing that work brings a sense of accomplishment, joy, and fulfillment, leading to happiness.
The most important thing that one feels within oneself. If the journey to find it is the first half of life, then in the second half of life, living a beautiful and joyful life means consistently practicing that precious mission found. Today, I feel a sense of overwhelm with the mountain of household chores piling up, but I console myself, the one writing the most important words… I conclude my writing. Everyone, fighting!
